Everquip was originally formed in 1981 in Hull by Mr John Everard, he started off repairing garage forecourt equipment such as air line gauges and forecourt air compressors. He made several new contacts and through his dealings with these garages he moved onto the supply, service and repair of Garage Equipment, such as vehicle lifts, compressor, air systems and MoT equipment.
John steadily built the company up employing some family members and engineers from other specialist engineering companies. In 1995 he decided it was time to move on and the three main engineers, Stuart Everard (his brother) Lyndon Blackburne and Carl Crisp put together a Management Buyout of the company and officially took the reins of the business on 1st October 1995.
Now known as Everquip Garage Equipment Limited, the three set off in a similar vein as the original company until 1998 when EGEL manufactured its first Everquip Inspection Pit. The first two pits were installed at the new Humberside County Council VMU facility at Carnaby, East Yorkshire (now known as East Riding of Yorkshire County Council). It was the largest ever project taken on by EGEL to date. We successfully tendered for the new VMU and supplied the Everquip Pits, commercial brake testers, MOT equipment, completed pipe work and lubrication distribution system as well as ancillary equipment. The site is still open and the Everquip Inspection Pits are still in daily use 22 years later.
EGEL saw a gap in the market and in 1999 we exhibited at our first Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC Birmingham. As then Sales Director Sales Everard, decided that we need a demonstration unit to take to interested companies. The company built a full-scale pit section with cut away sides and Stuart travelled the length and breadth of the United Kingdom with his trusty trailer and pit on the back of his Land Rover.
With Engineering Director Lyndon Blackburne taking overall responsibility for the design and production of the range of inspection pits and Operational/Installation Director Carl Crisp took the lead overseeing nearly every installation throughout the UK. With this unique team that had worked together most of their adult lives, the company began to grow to ever expanding markets such as Europe.
Our first toe in the water was Ireland with ASC Garage Equipment of Dublin. Their Managing Director promoted the Everquip Inspection Pits in Ireland and to date we have completed over 50 Installations. After the success with Ireland we looked over the North Sea to our friends in The Netherlands, with assistance from the Department of Trade and Industry, we appointed Hamer Installatintecnik as out Dutch distributor and to date have completed over 50 installations in some very difficult civil engineering conditions. Our relationship with these two distriburtors continues to grow stronger.
Such was demand of the Everquip Pits, we required larger fabrication facilities and we moved out of Hull to the small town of Gilberdyke. The team bought the premises and with with further investment in machinery the Company was able to bring everying in -house from pressing panels to refinishing in the largest spray booth in East Yorkshire.
EGEL have always been loyal to their suppliers and would especially like to thank Michael Braugh Steel Stockholders of Hull and also to NatWest Bank who have always been very supportive in good times and bad.
Everquip has now exported its range of products to 16 different countries from England, Qatar, The United States of America and even Greenland!
Over the years we have been pleased to be a distributor for many commercial garage products including braketesters, MOT equipment, pitjacks, and lubrication equipment.
2020 will see the 25th Anniversary of Everquip Garage Equipment Limited with the three Director at the helm,. They have been through many a storm, recessions, financial crashes and global pandemics, but the three still remain the genuinely best of friends and this ethos has transferred through to our loyal and fantastic staff and without them we wouldn’t be still in business.
We look forward to working with you in the coming year.
