Wash Pits
Everquip manufacture, supply and install a range of vehicle pits allowing commercial vehicles to drive over and be inspected, maintained, repaired or under chassis washed in this instance the easiest and safest way.
Before wash pits, vehicle ramps were the only option for under chassis steam cleaning of commercial vehicles. These however, are expensive and take up a substantial amount of space in the yard for the vehicle to be washed.
As part of the DVSA specification for MOT, every commercial vehicle needs to be under chassis washed before being presented, to enable a clear examination of the vehicle during testing.
Vehicle inspection and wash pits were typically made out of brick and left numerous hazards for when working underneath a vehicle such as:
- Ingress of water
- Poor lighting
- Slippery entrance and exit
- Unsafe flooring
- Poor working conditions
The introduction of an Everquip steel fabricated vehicle inspection and wash pit solved the above by producing:
- Non-slip entrance and exit to BS5395
- Non-slip floor
- Zone 2 lights
- Centrally fitted sump
- Steel fabrication of pit with skeletal frame internally and externally welded to ensure no ingress of water.
The design is that when a vehicle is washed under chassis, the water hits the wash pit floor (grated galvanised steel flooring) runs underneath and with the fall in the bottom of the pit runs to a weir which transfers the waste water via a pump into an interceptor, to be cleaned.
The wash pit benefits from being structural calculated and load bearing, once installed into the ground requires no ongoing maintenance unlike wash ramps.
Everquip pits are coated in a specialist marine based paint which stops any corrosion or rust from occurring during the busy life cycle a wash pit has – it is also backed up by a 10-year structural warranty.
